UNFORGETTABLE BOWHUNTERS!

I just finished reading "Unforgettable Bowhunters." I have a special limited edition. What an outstanding book showcasing the men and women behind the curtain of the bow and arrow. I would love to see a sequel to this book showcasing some of today's popular and unpopular bowhunters. Greg Miller, Stan Potts, Michael Waddell, Will Primos, Ralph and Vicki, Lee and Tiffany. It would be a great addition from M. R. James to make a second book coming from the master himself. I feel today's generation would really get a lot out of it. Also would love to know of any updates about the future of Chuck Adams and any new book ideas coming out.Scott Griffin

[M. R. James] pulls no punches in his profiles and candidly discusses any controversies and/or issues involving that person, even when it involves friends...What makes for an interesting read is rather than regurgitating the same stories and accomplishments we have all heard, he tells us more of his interactions with the individuals on a personal level.

I give Unforgettable Bowhunters an enthusiastic thumbs up. There is something here for all. We get to better know the profiled individuals from an insider who knew them...People often speculate what "M. R." stands for. In this case, it stands for "Must Read!"John Vargo, PBS Magazine

In truth, my first impression was that it was going to be a collection of back-slappng stories about well-known bowhunters. For me, that type of book is a big "yawn." But as I thumbed through the pages, I realized that my first impression was wrong and I found myself caught up in it. This is significant since I never read anything due to my busy schedule. I found your book fascinating and learned a lot of things I didn't know about men I thought I knew well. It was candid and refreshing and I think it's terrific.Pat Lefemine, BOWSITE.com

I could not wait to tell you how much I enjoyed your new book. I've been reading it every spare moment. I know most of the folks so that makes it interesting, even the good, the bad, and the ugly. It's great to get to know them better through your excellent writing. Thanks so much for many hours of entertainment.

Stan & Carolyn Godfrey
Stan and I just got your new book. We really are enjoying it. Hard to put down. Thanks for the bowhunting memories.

LIFE AT FULL DRAW:
THE CHUCK ADAMS STORY

“A fascinating read … so fascinating that I could hardly put it down. ‘Life at Full Draw’ does a wonderful job of serving up tantalizing insights into the mind behind Chuck Adams’ signature smile. The book talks with surprising openness about the motivations behind the man, the course to celebrity status, and even the ranting of detractors. … This is the story behind the story. It needed to be told and it needs to be read.”—Bill Krenz, owner/editor Inside Archery and Bowhunt America.

“At long last, here’s an honest examination of the facts with all Chuck Adams rumors and criticisms addressed in direct, unflinching prose.”—M. R. James, founder Bowhunter magazine.

“This book should clear the air about Chuck Adams and force hunters to examine their priorities and the way that the hunting community works. The scope, thoroughness and balance of this well-written book make it a definite bull’s eye.”—James Swan, columnist, ESPN Outdoors.

Todd, Glenn Rock, PA:
I highly recommend "Life at Full Draw," because it tells a lot more about the life of Chuck from boyhood through his Super Slam! Reading these hunting adventures makes a bowhunter dream about some of these hunts. I felt that this book was much better than Super Slam, because I got to know who Chuck Adams is and how he thinks.

Lauren Riehl, Missoula, MT:
I have followed Chuck Adams through his books and articles since I was a small kid. This book’s got it all under one cover and even shows the bad side's of Chuck's great hunting experiences. If you read the book ignore the politics and enjoy the life of an inspirational archer.

Larry Welch II, Deep Run, NC:
It was one of the most exciting books I have read in a while. To the average hunter where work and family takes up most of our time reading a book will let you enjoy what it would be like if you could hunt for a living. I have never met Chuck Adams but after reading this book I feel like I have shared a hunting camp with him and hunted with him.

Judd Snell, Chanhassen, MN:
Gutschow has written an inspirational bio that includes not only Chuck Adams’ extraordinary story, but asks the burning question "Is he really that good?" Many of Chucks guides, outfitters, industry associates, Fred Asbell, and even rocker Ted Nugent answer this question and provide insight into the much envied world of the hunting professional.

After reading this you realize Chuck is the "Tiger Woods" of bowhunting he is so much better because he works at it much harder than most.

This book is well written, and will make you a better hunter. For non-hunters (like me) it is an interesting read about an individual at the top of his profession that motivates you to be better at whatever is your passion.

Maybe I'll check out the bows next time at Cabela's......

ihuntSUPER SLAM!

Bradley, J Caro, MS:
This book is a must-have for bow and gun hunters alike. I would love to someday complete the North American 28 but right now don't have the time or money. This book gives me hope because Chuck did most of his hunts on his own. He's a great bowhunter and storyteller. His accomplishments afield are second to no one. This books tells about it all.

Reviewer: Midwest Book Review (OR, WI USA)
Super Slam!: Adventures With North American Big Game is a narrative of expert bowhunter Chuck Adams' experiences with game animals ranging from Black Bears to Bighorn Sheep, Mountain Lions, Canada Moose and much more. A thrilling true-life narrative of braving weather, terrain, natural hazards, and more to test one's skill against the wiles of wildlife, Super Slam! an enjoyable, brisk-paced read for armchair travelers, dedicated hunters, and anyone wondering what it is truly like to stalk game without a gun.

ihuntBOWHUNTING FORESTS AND DEEP WOODS

Papaw, Pine Bluff, AR:
Greg Miller is one of the foremost experts on the habits of white-tailed deer and the techniques used to hunt them. So much that is written now on the subject can be classified as just warmed over rewrites of previously covered subjects, but Greg Miller's approach is noteworthy because it covers the five "W's" of research - "What, Where, When, Why, and hoW!" He promises no shortcuts but does promise results if the hunter applies himself. Great read and great information. I recommend this book as well as others Greg Miller has written on the subject of hunting for Whitetail deer to anyone aspiring go after this great game animal.

Uncle M, Indianapolis, IN:
I have read all of Greg Miller's earlier works and enjoyed them. This is the most honest book he has ever done. This is not the "glass the crop fields and find the hardwood funnel" tactics of 90% of the deer hunting books out there. It reminds me of the John Eberhardt bowhunting books in that it really shows you what it takes to be a consistent hunter in these environs. The work, preparation, and especially mental attitude. Greg is not preaching: he readily explains his own feelings from his earliest attempts at bowhunting.

ihuntI REMEMBER PAPA BEAR
THE UNTOLD STORYOF THE LEDGENDARY
FREAD BEAR INCLUDING HIS SECRETS OF HUNTING

“Just finished “Papa Bear” last night.  I was surprised how emotional I felt reading the last few chapters. After all, even though I was fortunate enough to meet Fred on one of his hunts here in Bassett, Nebraska, it would be a real stretch to say I knew him.  So, I chalked up my emotions to some great writing that allowed me to feel a little closer to one of my heroes.

“Thank you for taking the time to write about your days at Bear Archery and your time with Fred Bear. It is important historical information that needed to be recorded for future bowhunters. Also, thanks for working with Dick Mauch to provide books for the recent Nebraska Bowhunters convention.”
Joel Klammer, District Fisheries Supervisor, Nebraska Game and Parks Commission

“I am a long-tenured Bushnell employee who has had the privilege of working with Gen. Joe Engle since 1987. In the early years, as you know, Gen. Joe divided his time between the Bear and Bushnell booths.

“When I received a mailing about your book, I ordered it immediately. Gen. Joe introduced me to Papa Bear and had told me about how he regarded Fred as a second father. I particularly enjoyed your explanation of how Fred was involved with the astronauts.
“The hours you spent on this book have made it a treasure.”
Barbara Mellman Skinner, Bushnell Performance Optics

“Returned to my NY office yesterday and was pleased to find two copies (one signed) of ‘I Remember Papa Bear.’ Started to read last night and didn’t put it down until I had worked my way through most of it.

“Congratulations to you and to IHUNT Communications on a great book! It reads easily and is loaded with beautifully told and important history which urgently needed to be preserved. This book will be enormously useful as we put together the Fred Bear Museum in Springfield.

“I have a feeling this book will wind up on my ‘true north’ pile along with Leopold and a few others. These are the ones I read and re-read to find my way through life. More than any other, you have brought Fred Bear’s life into a much-needed and here-to-fore missing focus. For that you deserve my and the rest of the bowhunting industry's thanks.
—Craig Dougherty

“My numbered, leather-bound limited edition copy of ‘I Remember Papa Bear’ arrived yesterday. I must compliment you in every respect on this book. It is so well done, so humbly done, so complete, so informational, I have trouble putting it down.

“I can easily see where this book would command a very high price at auction and I think when the actual book gets into many hands, your orders and their response will multiply rapidly. Warmest respect.”
Sherwood Schoch

“The book is wonderful. I truly appreciate your efforts in publishing the book and
preserving the history of Fred Bear from a new and unique perspective. Many
people have written books and told stories about Fred's hunting adventures,
but this book is exceptional.

“The book is fascinating and truly brings back some great
memories of my early years of bowhunting (started in 1972 while in high
school).  I really enjoyed the chapter on the ‘Guns of Autumn.’ I don't know
many hunters that remember that monstrosity, but I can vividly remember
watching it when I was in college.  You and Fred set the stage for the
promotion and preservation of our sport and I REALLY appreciate the history
on some of the early struggles.

“Thank you for doing the book. I will strongly recommend it to anyone.”
Tom Lanz

“I just want to let you know how much ‘I Remember Papa Bear’ has touched my heart and rekindled my passion for bowhunting. I finally got to hear Ted Nugent’s song ‘Fred Bear’ around the same time I received the book …

“After Fred died, I got really depressed about bowhunting. It’s been that way until just recently I purchased ‘I Remember Papa Bear.’ After reading the book and playing Ted’s ‘Fred Bear’ song on tape a dozen times or more, I’ve gotten my Polar LTD
back out, cleaned it up and went to the local archery shop.

“Thank you Mr. Lattimer and thank you Ted. Thanks for what you do that keeps Fred Bear alive for people, especially the new, young archers. You brought him back to life for me.”
Ssgt. Robert L. Page II, USMC

“Thank you so much for the book. It was on my desk when I finally got back to the office this afternoon. Despite all the other work piled around, I couldn't help but break open the binding.

“The outline of the book is just my style. 1982 was a pivotal year for Bass Pro Shops.  In a large part, it was because of the 'Hunt With Fred' campaign. The campaign spurred us to pursue archery with the same vigor as fishing. We committed to ourselves to win the trip with Fred, and I think we would have bought all the bows we thought we

could sell for the next two years to do so. Winning the 'Hunt With Fred' campaign provided the external credibility we would use to establish ourselves as a Fishing and Hunting Business.  The rest, as they say, is history.”
Rick Collins, Bass Pro Shops
